Life at Bollettieri

First weekend back

Well it’s the first weekend back and usually it’s a good break but I haven’t really played much tennis or anything so I don’t really NEED this sort of rest. I will be doing a good amount of studying this weekend and hopefully I’ll play some tennis as well. I am excited for the upcoming semester, I am definitely hoping it also gets warmer very soon. It is so cold right now that I am beginning to wish I brought my gloves back from home. I decided to buy some for our whistler trip and they proved to be a good purchase, but I just didn’t think i would need them for Florida!

A blunder on my part, I’ve thought a lot about money management and different ways to save money. Certain people just save save save, always thinking about getting the best deals and living cheap. This is time-consuming and I believe that you should invest your time and effort in other areas rather than doing this. I think that people don’t do enough study before making a purchase; there are so many products out there and competing companies, that when you make a big purchase like a new computer, you should  really do a lot of study before buying. Especially things you use a lot, a computer is so commonly used these days that you should make sure that you’re not only getting a good deal but getting what you need for what you will be doing with it.

Britney Loses Rights to See Kids

Well the whole family seems to be continuing in a downward spiral as Britney isn’t allowed to see her kids:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/01/04/britney.spears.ap/index.html

It isn’t surprising and is a pretty good decision, it was obvious she was not helping her children.

Also recently, Britney Spears’ 15 year old sister got pregnant recently, which questions her mother’s ability to parent her children. Pretty shocking, one would think she would learn from her sister’s mistakes.

It seems to make sense as to why all these celebrities make poor decisions. Typically people who make a lot of money made their money by smart business. They figure out a way to make money, and when it works, they keep making intelligent decisions. However when people make money because of their fame, they don’t exactly have to be smart. They are talented at what they do, but they essentially did not figure out good business on their own, they walked into success.

Planet Earth

I bought the video series Planet Earth at Wal-Mart, and have begun watching it. It’s pretty amazing what kind of footage they have come up with, they put an incredible amount of time into this and it really covers an enormous variety of animals. So far I’ve watched the first disk, which takes a look at arctic animals in an episode called “Pole to Pole”, another episode about mountain animals, and a deep ocean episode.

I think so far I like the Deep Ocean episode the best. What we’ve been learning about in Marine Science is some of the deep sea animals survive at ridiculous depths because of the vents on the ocean floor, that heat the water. Without this heat it would be freezing at this depth and inhabitable, but somehow life is able to survive.

I’ve learned that life will come about in places that it can, and animals have only the most primitive thought on their mind… survival. Humans mastered this difficult task, and now have the luxury of thinking about other comforts and entertainments.

Finals and Walmart

The finals was this morning and Alex Domijan really had a tough time. Elias got to everything and looked a lot more professional out there. He started to make Alex miss, and even though Domijan really hit the ball hard from every part of the court he could not keep up with Gastao Elias’ consistency. He ended up getting a little frustrated and Elias never let up, eventually winning the match and the tournament, 6-2 6-1 in the finals.

I went to Walmart and picked up some things for the next two weeks and I don’t think I will have to go next week. I am pretty sure i have all the food and stuff that I need so I don’t have to worry about getting anything next week. We stayed up late for the past few nights so I have to switch gears and get up early tomorrow so I better get to sleep early tonight as well.

Saturday- Semis

The semifinals for the Eddie Herr were today and the two finalists are Gastao Elias and Alex Domijan. They both won their semifinal matches fairly easily and will probably have a good match tomorrow. I’m looking forward to watching because today they both had such an easy time and it would be surprising if one of them ended up winning easily. I think that Elias may have an edge because he is much more experienced, he plays a lot of futures and challengers. and really is competing with the professionals quite well.

Tennis starts up again on Monday and it will be hard to wake up at 5:45 every morning but it’s only for two more weeks so I can handle it. I think I’m going to work really hard for the next two weeks before break, and then relax a little bit over vacation and probably not do as much in terms of tennis and school as well.

Sunday- Walmart?

Well I’m doing homework now but I’m going to go to Wal-Mart at 3:30pm. Hopefully I get everything done by then so I can relax and go to sleep early tonight. I need a few things from Wal-Mart and hopefully I can find what I need quick so I can get a sandwich and sit down to eat there. Later on tonight I am probably going to watch a movie with my roommate, and I need to remember to get my laundry done at 7:45.

Other than that, nothing much else is going on today, it’s another eventless Sunday. We aren’t really required to do much on Sundays, the weekdays are so packed that we are given Sundays just to rest and blow off steam. Saturdays often there will be practice and other things going on but since Sunday is a school night, not much goes on at night and there really isn’t much going on in the morning either.

Tuesday Drilling

Today we drilled for most of practice. It was our first day that we didn’t have to go to the hill but I ended up just running on the treadmill for a while after IPI. I didn’t get back to my dorm until almost 12, but I didn’t really mind because I still had plenty of time to get ready for school, which starts at 12:45. It was a very tiring day because for some reason my roommates and I didn’t get to bed very early, we were fooling around for a while and ended up finally getting to sleep at 12:30 or so. Unusual because of how early we wake up, but we had a good time and it was a lot of fun just hanging out in the dorm.

Tacoma Shooter Receives 163-year sentence

This shooting happened in my city about two years ago. Nobody was killed but the man injured seven people. I remember hearing about it and it was very surprising because we don’t live in a place where these types of things happen very often. Based on the article I read, the guy seems pretty crazy, not realizing quite how serious this is. In the courtroom, he mentioned the Seahawks, wishing them luck this year. The judge decided that he knew what he was doing and figured the man was not safe to have out in public any more. It certainly took a long time for this trial to finally be completed, but for situations like this one, they usually take quite a while. The shooter apologized to the victims’ families but did not really seem too sorry about it emotionally, he didn’t seem to care too much.

Wal-Mart

Well I’ve got to pick up some things at Wal-Mart today. More towels, some gatorade, some PowerBar regeneration shakes. These are for after practice, I saw a few recommendations online for them and they are supposed to heal your muscles faster. For instance if you are cramping after practice, these help you recover more quickly. I need to get some more school supplies as I’m running low on stuff like pens and paper, but the rest of what I will buy will most likely just be snacks/drinks for evenings in the dorm.

Missed brunch today so I’ll probably grab a sandwich at Wal-Mart, I don’t really want to eat dinner here tonight because Sundays are a notoriously bad day to eat in the cafeteria. Other than that I just have some homework to finish up on and I’m probably just going to relax for the rest of the evening. Most of my roommates are coming back today so it won’t be so quiet in here.

Boring Day

Got a lot of work done today, but nobody is here in my dorm so I’m pretty bored. Everyone went home for the weekend and the golfers went to a tournament. I am hoping there is someone who I can hit with tomorrow with my new demos, I want to try them out before practice on Monday.

Not much else new has gone on but I have a lot going on in the upcoming weekends, including the Boca Raton tournament qualifying, and the SAT next weekend. I think the next month or so is going to be pretty hectic but a lot of fun things are happening so I am looking forward to most of it. Once I get all caught up in my schoolwork I won’t have to worry so much about everything because I will have a bit more time to concentrate on tennis, and other important things like the SAT.
